Shilpa is the CBB Winner 2007 - Thanks to YOU!

Shilpa Shetty was crowned the winner of Celebrity Big Brother 2007 on Sunday with over 60% of the vote. The runner up was Jermaine Jackson, showing that the two most dignified housemates got their due.

Shilpa's time in the house has been one that has seen many memorable moments including:
Discussing Gandhi's philosophy with Dirk
Dirk and Shilpa's flirtatious fun

Shilpa: So you should marry when you're 60? That's what I think I'll do..
Dirk: Honey, I can't wait that long..!

Shilpa showing grace under fire throughout the arguments with Jade
Shilpa's respect for other housemates, especially elders and always retreating to her parents' pictures when things got tough
Shilpa and Jermaine
Shilpa and her wings
Shilpa being the first ever actress to have the opportunity to be in the Jacksons with one of the original members
"Chicken Curry Rules!"

...and many, many more..

Shilpa has entertained the nation with a smile, been a sign of strength when tested and united people of all creeds and colours like never before. Quite simply, it's been a journey we've all taken with her and I want to thank all those who have contacted me expressing concern, love and support for Shilpa.

She truly deserved to win and did us all proud even when she came out.

Here's to the future, and Shilpa... thanks for the memories..

Shilpa's First Flurries

Shilpa woke up this morning to a blanket of snow layered over the BB lawn. Excited at this sight she squealed to the other housemates how she'd never seen snow before. She then proceeds to dress up like an old woman (a relative of Aunt Jamilah?) who will 'go out and plow the ice-clogged fields'! Shilpa is certainly keeping everyone in the house on their toes - she's even introduced 2 new housemates - Aunt Jamilah and her friend who clears the snow!

Aunt Shilpa

Shilpa caused an outburst of laughter from Big Brother and her housemates when she passed one of her tasks with flying colours through making Big Brother laugh. Taking on the persona of Auntie Jamilah who is obsessed with bananas, Shilpa told BB the woman from Southall was sweet and believed a banana a day is excellent for health. Will the Aunt return? Watch this space…!

JADE EVICTED FROM THE BB HOUSE

After gaining 82% of the nation's vote, Jade has been evicted from the Big Brother house, meaning Shilpa stays in!
Jade made peace with Shilpa before leaving the house through a long conversation where the two referred to 'how this would look outside the house' stirring up the debate as to what they had been told. The Big Brother house apparently avoids all contact with the outside world may have revealed the way the press has reacted to the two.
What happens now is anyone's guess, but the ringleader of the bullying trio is out! Well done Shilpa supporters!

Newsround reports on the bullying in the Big Brother house

The Flames of Wrath

The BB Race Row has dominated the headlines all day yesterday across the world, but if the insults directed at Shilpa behind her back resulted in burning effigies, prepare for a riot today. Highlights of the show this evening showed for the first time (with no lost sound feed) the vicious attack by Jade on Shilpa.

Among the things said was a reference to her 'being a princess in Neverland, but you're just a housemate here'. Disrespect was not the least of it. Jade went into a tirade that shocked the whole house and was egged on by a laughing Jo and Danielle, who joined in saying: "I wish she'd just f-off back home."
The argument which Jermaine intervened in, led Shilpa to question: "Is it because I'm Indian? I'm representing my country, is this what the UK has come to?"
This raises a very valid point. Jade being the ringleader in the bullying represented a modern Britain in the original Big Brother which led to sympathy and fame. Jo and Danielle however represent the desperation for acceptance that has seeped into the public which has taken them to the lengths they are going to for acceptance from Jade.

Jermaine has already stated that Shilpa carries herself with self-respect and dignity, like Cleo, but is picked on because she's different, implying a woman of colour. He also reiterated this in the Diary room, yet Channel 4 refuse to acknowledge Shilpa as being a victim of racism and bullying until she says so herself.
Victims of bullying seldom speak up and need support and help so that they can gather the strength to tell someone. Big Brother has not offered Shilpa this support and failed to prevent events which will undoubtedly remain with Shilpa for a long time coming. Once someone is attacked, verbally or physically, that experience becomes part of your being. You can recall it in detail and grimace at having to retell the story. Many viewers last night felt uneasy watching Jade attack Shilpa and would not forget it, how do you think Shilpa will be feeling?
Nominations have taken place and will be announced today. If Jade, Danielle or Jo are up for eviction, show your support for Shilpa by voting them out of the Big Brother house. More details as they are released...

Mahesh Bhatt Blasts Big Brother...and the Bigger Picture

Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt has strongly criticised Big Brother while saying that the situation in the house is reflecting a wider problem in Western society."What is happening on Big Brother is just holding the mirror to the western society," Bhatt told a Reuters correspondent in Mumbai. "This is the real, discriminating face of the West you can see on the streets of London or New York."

Complaints to Ofcom

If you have not yet complained to Ofcom about Shilpa's treatment in the Big Brother house, please do so using the following link:
Remember you should be complaining about what has been broadcast and offended you.

Stallone Mesmerised by Shilpa

Rocky Balboa star Sylvester Stallone, whose mum Jackie was in CBB two years ago, has also joined the BB debate.
In London for the premiere of the movie, he said: "Shilpa is a beautiful woman. Everybody should stand corrected and just move on. It's a game."
"Unfortunately, it's human nature. It's wrong, obviously but you've got people in a pressured situation."
Rocky Balboa goes on general release this Friday and is a perfect ending to a great series. On a light hearted note, here is Shilpa with Jermaine Jackson and the awesome Jackson 5 tribute band..

Shilpa's Family Issue a Statement

The following statement was issued by Shilpa's family this afternoon after thousands of requests for an interview:
"We as a family are overwhelmed and touched by the outpour of public support for Shilpa not just in India, but from across the globe, in light of recent events in the show Celebrity Big Brother. Shilpa is a strong individual who continues to make us proud every day. We do not condone in any form bullying or victimisation of anyone or a group of people."
The statement and details were dissipated through KeepShilpaIn.com and appeared in most national press.

An Open Letter to the Indian Press

I am very concerned about the negative press in India about Shilpa's time in the Celebrity Big Brother House and wish to clarify some facts in hope that some media will choose to give her experience the credit it deserves.

Big Brother is a huge show here. It spawned Celebrity big Brother which proved to be extremely popular. The celebrities in the series have been questionable but enjoyed some glory in their hey-day (Brigitte Nielson, Dennis Rodman, Jackie Stallone), but Shilpa's participation in the show has ensured a real celebrity was part of the experience for the first time. Shilpa is adored by her overseas fans and live shows, appearances and the success of her films proves this, so the announcement that Shilpa Shetty would be in Celebrity Big Brother was huge. The other most popular celebrities with her in the house are Dirk Benedict (from the A-Team) and Jermaine Jackson (of the Jackson 5). Both have been impressed with Shilpa and formed a bond with her.

The non-celebrities in the house Jade (a former Big Brother contestant), Jackiey (Jade's mum), Jack (Jade's boyfriend) and Danielle (a disgraced former Miss Great Britain who was stripped of her title) have not been able to bond with anyone but each other and resorted to intimidating tactics and bullying Shilpa. Jermaine and Dirk have spoken up for her, as have journalist Carole Malone and singer Ian Watkins, and Jermaine went as far as telling Big Brother: "I can't help but note that she is the only woman of colour in the house and she is being treated differently," highlighting that whereas a class divide existed in the house previously, a racial divide was now bubbling.

What disturbs me the most is the way the Indian press are making fun of and negatively reporting Shilpa's actions which have highlighted Indians to the British public, made overseas Asians proud and brought attention to the Indian film industry from the casual British viewer as Bollywood DVD rentals have increased threefold since Shilpa entered the Big Brother house. She has said positive things about India and Bollywood and Dirk even contemplated what a Bollywood film with him and her would be like.

Shilpa has done Asians proud by being in the Big Brother House. She has been dignity personified, spoke highly of India, her family, her religion and shown nothing less than exemplary values and was described as 'culturally balanced' by her housemates. She has recently been the victim of bullying in the house by people who make fun of her accent, Indian food and more. The British public and press have come out to support Shilpa with many pro-Shilpa campaigns as well as the online community (such as www.shilpa-shetty.blogspot.com, www.keepshilpain.com) which is why it is a shame the Indian press are not mirroring this pride.

Shilpa has brought Indian values and culture to a British reality show and wowed the public and press through being herself. She did not break into a song n dance routine (except when she became the first ever Indian actress to be part of a Jackson Five tribute group with one of the original Jacksons) nor did she perform any daredevil stunts like in her films, she simply was herself and talked about her family, her work, her country and the film industry. She misses her family and their pictures are always up. She has taken time to pray regularly in the house, practice (and teach others) yoga, taught messages from the Gita and taught small cultural respectful mannerisms such as remaining polite to elders no matter what, calling them 'Uncle' due to seniority, giving up her bed for others, cooking food for them with an Indian twist and so much more. The Asians overseas are proud of her for who she is and for how much she has highlighted our culture. Today if you walk on the streets on London, she dominates front pages and the average man on the street knows who she is. They do not know who Bollywood stalwarts Shah Rukh Khan or Amitabh Bachchan are but they know who Shilpa Shetty is and describe her as very endearing and they want to know more about her and her culture because it has retained a respect forgotten in modern times.

Shilpa has been the victim of bullying with racial undertones (her accent was mimicked, she was referred to as 'the Indian', asked whether she lived in a 'shack', discussions included how Indians eat with their hands and a joke was made about throwing things in 'Shilpa's curry' - not because she was making curry but because it's an Indian dish). The public here have thronged to her support with Ofcom revealing it has now received over 4500 complaints about her treatment in the house and one of the housemates (Jade) who was bullying her has been ceremoniously dumped today as a spokesperson for a anti-bullying charity given she has been bullying someone herself. Jermaine repeats how uncomfortable he is with what is happening in the house every day, Carole Malone found Jackiey's way with Shilpa "insulting" and Ian Watkins broke down saying what he was seeing reminded him of how he was bullied at school.

So why are the Indian press not supporting her? Our culture, our heritage, our lives, our country and one of our celebrities who is making India proud is being ridiculed by a few people on national television and we cannot even unite to speak out about it in our own country?

Dirk Benedict told Shilpa yesterday that when she leaves the BB house it would remain with her as her experience would be akin to psychological scarring. Will the scars get deeper when she returns to the very country she's been praising only to find they've been speaking against her instead of supporting her?

I hope for India's sake, this does not happen.

Fuad Omar.

Carole Malone on Shilpa Shetty

Carole Malone was evicted last Friday from the Celebrity BB House and this Sunday sees her first column since the eviction. In today's Sunday Mirror, she talks about the housemates and praises Shilpa. For the full story, pick up today's Sunday Mirror.

Here's the excerpts:

"...And then there's Shilpa Shetty, the drop-dead gorgeous Bollywood star who's worth £15million and lives in an apartment in Bombay with servants and chauffeurs - whom I never for one moment imagined I'd have anything in common with. But in the past 10 days we've shared stories of past romances. We've shared moisturisers and a face-pack. We've even dyed our moustaches with (her) cream bleach. She's taught me how to cook at least three Indian dishes. She's given me a pair of fantastic shoes. We've organised a shopping trip to Bombay where I'm hoping I can live the Bollywood life for at least a couple of days. Yes, Shilpa can be a bit bossy and, yes, you'd better move out of the kitchen when she's cooking because she wants to be in charge. But the woman has heart and grace and elegance - all of which she's going to need because Jade and Danielle are gunning for her.

Jade's mum Jackiey hated Shilpa and constantly referred to her as "The Indian" which I found horribly insulting. Jackiey made life purposely difficult for Shilpa - shouting at her for no reason, criticising her cooking, attacking her for being bossy.

Most of the time Shilpa kept her cool because, as she says, in India you don't shout at your elders - you try to show them respect, a word Jackiey clearly doesn't understand or deserve."

"THERE was a point where Jermaine and I were frightened Jackiey might physically attack Shilpa. But the funny thing is there were days I actually liked Jackiey. I saw her vulnerability. I knew she'd had a difficult life and was jealous of Shilpa (who wouldn't be?) but her way of handling that was cruel and unnecessary. And I fear for Shilpa now because its obvious Jade is hell- bent on giving her a hard time."

".....And then there's lovely Jermaine who doesn't say much, but when he does his words cut through all the crap. He's the most shocked and troubled by what's happening. He's a Muslim and deeply devout. He's been a rock for Shilpa as she's been dealing with aggression from the Goody family, and he's the man we all went to when we had a problem."

"...ON SHILPA: BEAUTIFUL, imperious, a real lady. Bit bossy, but is lots of fun. Is a great cook and has a huge heart. Has promised to take me to Bollywood to meet some handsome film stars and has an earring collection to make your toes curl. Will last the course. "

Danielle and Jade Vs Shilpa

For those who have been asking to see the 1st argument that BB cut their Carole Malone interview short for, here it is. Included is Jermaine's wise response

West Side Story

Following Carole’s eviction, Cleo told Jo, Danielle and Jade that Shilpa was scared of them and they had to make peace. After spending hours bitching about Shilpa behind her back and at one point, making such derogatory remarks that it’s a surprise that they were allowed to stay in the house, everyone seems to have agreed to amicably continue. Jermaine told Shilpa ‘You should just leave them. You can’t mix class with no-class’ implying that even trying to talk to the girls was a waste of time but Shilpa insisted she did not like negative energy and would not tolerate disrespect.

Shilpa having repeatedly gone up to whoever had a problem with her and attempting to sort it out has been shut out, bitched about and treated terribly by Danielle, Jade and Jackie. Jo joined in the back-biting but later said it had overstepped the mark. The Keep Shilpa In campaign would like to see Danielle evicted as soon as possible because of her two-faced antics where she says one thing to Shilpa’s face and another behind her back.

Today was a better day and a new task was set. Jermaine headed his group of Dirk, Shilpa, Cleo and Danielle as the new Jackson 5 and rehearsed with them for a performance of ‘I Want You Back’ facing Ian and the rest who would perform a Steps song. Two performances were delivered and the public voted Jermaine’s group as the winner. A Jackson 5 party was thrown and all housemates seemed to be getting along well – including Shilpa and Danielle. Shilpa would not harbour any grudge against any housemates but the way Danielle and Jade laid into Shilpa behind her back, making fun of her accent and even calling her ‘a dog’ should not be something accepted. Vote to get Danielle out as soon as she’s up for eviction and always vote to keep Shilpa in!

Carole Exits as an Argument Ensues

Carole has been evicted and the news of this is soon eclipsed by the ruckus in the house, which caused Channel 4 to cut her off short and go directly to the CBB House. An argument ensued with Jade and Danielle ganging up on Shilpa with no sense being made of what the argument was over whatsoever. All soon became clear:

Shortly before the conversation, Shilpa had come outside and sat next to Danielle at which point Danielle got up and sat next to Jade. Finding this odd and concerned she had done something to offend Danielle, Shilpa asked Danielle in the bathroom ‘When I sat next to you why did you get up and go to Jade? Did I do something wrong?’ which Danielle interpreted as meaning Shilpa had taken offence at Danielle siding with Jade, which was not the case. Danielle went straight to Jade to tell her and the two of them confronted Shilpa asking what problem she had with Jade and with Danielle’s friendship with Jade. Confused at this accusation, Shilpa clarified she had no problem and was asking if she had done something wrong rather than implying Danielle had. After laying into Shilpa, Danielle and Jade said ‘I don’t know what we’re arguing about’ (Jade) and ‘I don’t even remember what you said’ (Danielle) as they left the room. Shilpa, a little shaken, walked across the room and sat next to Jermaine who witnessed the confrontation and she asked him: “I don’t think people like me in here,” before shedding a tear.
Jermaine cut her off with a determined resilience explaining she had done nothing wrong and not to lower herself to their levels. Jermaine, the peaceful god-fearing soul who observes, smiles and then comments weighed up everything trying to console Shilpa, telling her that Jade and Danielle had made him uncomfortable and also done ‘unladylike’ things that compromised their respect. He also told her not to worry about them and to let them do what they want as she was being dignified and respectable. Ian Watkins also came over to Shilpa telling her to ‘ignore them and just be yourself’.

Shilpa is definitely feeling the pressure but remaining a survivor, hang in there Shilpa – you’re doing great! Good things happen to good people and you’ve proved you’re among the best in the house, stay strong!

Jermaine on Jackie

A moment of clarity courtesy of the gentle spiritual giant that is Jermaine Jackson:

Jackie's Out and Gives a Soundbyte That's Worse Than Her Bark

After being evicted from the CBB House, the first quote Jackie gave was “I’m glad I’m out, the Indian was jarring me”. Despite admitting I thought her previous references to Shilpa as ‘The Indian’ were a result of ignorance and not of malicious intention, her consistent outbursts lead me to simply feel sad for Jackie. She obviously has a problem with Indians as she never referred to anyone else in the house as anything other than their name (not the American, African American, Journalist or otherwise). Message to Jackie: It’s time to learn Shilpa’s name before she’s out, then you can both laugh about the whole experience and be able to say her name.

SHILPA REMAINS IN THE CBB HOUSE!

A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO VOTED, YOUR SUPPORT HAS PAID OFF: SHILPA REMAINS IN THE CELEBRITY BB HOUSE :-)

JACKIE Vs SHILPA: The Final Round

THE EVICTION

A Better Day

After a tumultuous day in the Big brother house with many talking behind her back, Shilpa had a more positive day today. She has had Jade saying she behaves differently with different people and where Shilpa’s concerned she can go to her for a serious conversation. On top of that, Shilpa’s been cooking curry for her housemates and getting praises for it from everyone – even Jackie!

As for the Dirk-Shilpa romance, it was once again reiterated that it will not blossom as an interesting exchange of conversation between Shilpa and Cleo took place this morning in the bathroom.

"... He's so relaxing, so funny...” said Cleo before adding “you think he's Sexy?" to which Shilpa replied: "I think he's very sexy." "Then what's wrong with you then?" Cleo quizzed her. "He's sexy and old," replied Shilpa. "Maybe he's got a few more years than you, but that doesn't make him old. I know people who are younger than him who are really old." "I agree," nodded Shilpa. "You're full-on fussy, he makes you laugh, he's gentlemanly. What's missing?" asked Cleo."Age," said Shilpa. "Oh no, that's terrible," stuttered Cleo. "Oh... oh... no you can't!"
Yes she can Cleo. Shilpa is exactly half Dirk’s age! But I do think this is the beginning of a great friendship..

Later today Shilpa and Ian were talking about life outside the house and Ian asked Shilpa where the future was heading. The beautiful actress smiled and said “in the right direction!” She also said she would love to work in the UK but would not compromise her achievements by starting over.

Today is the public vote, VOTE TO KEEP SHILPA IN! For more details on how to keep her in the house visit http://www.keepshilpain.com/ now!

Alone in a Crowd

Shilpa has a bad day in the Big Brother house. After Jackie told the others she thought she was a fake, the issue has snowballed into the female housemates talking about Shilpa behind her back. Jo, Jade and Danielle called Shilpa too controlling and manipulative.

"I find her a bit irritating at times, she seems a bit fake to me," said Jade. "She’s too fake," agreed Jo.
"She's so controlling and bossy, I don't like that," continued Danielle. "I feel she'd talk about me when I left the room."
Carole, with no knowledge of this conversation, moments later spoke to Danielle about the vibes she was getting from the girls to Danielle, unaware that Danielle was also party to the backbiting session.

"I think some people are starting to pick on Shilpa, they need someone to moan about, it's quite sad really because she's done nothing wrong," said Carole. "I think some people find her a bit controlling," responded Danielle.

As the day went on things got better as others reasserted their support for her. When talking about the conflict with Jackie, Jermaine told Shilpa:

"You probably intimidate her (Jackie) because of your confidence and secureness. I don't want you to repeat this, but you have a lot of support in here, because other people know why she's doing it."

In a conversation with Carole later, Shilpa admitted: "I'm feeling low and then she says something to me and I think, 'why are you talking to me'," Shilpa says. "What would you do?" she asked Carole.

"I'd have a go," Carole responded. "You've been elegant and diginified. That works where you come from, it doesn't work here. You have to have a go back."

This fundamentally is the problem between Shilpa and the other housemates. She is so genuine and has an inherent kindness in her upbringing and culture that this is being misconstrued as being done ‘for effect’. When she got up from the dinner table at the banquet to hug Jade’s grandparents, it was because she felt happy to be reminded of family. These same values made her refer to Ken as ‘Uncle’ as he is her elder. Some housemates seem to think she’s doing this for brownie points or for the camera. The culture clash is seeping through and Shilpa is doing great being herself but this is coming across as motivated. I guess in one way that’s a huge compliment that you can’t find someone as genuine as Shilpa everywhere in the world and so some find it unbelievable. Hang in there Shilpa, you’re doing us all (and your family) proud so it doesn’t matter what others say!

Nowhere Singer

Shilpa has been much more relaxed, happy and full of life ever since the task with the servants came to an end on Monday and the whole team were reunited again. She spent ages talking to everyone and even sat ‘Nowhere’ and sang to Ian. her first choice of cut was “Unbreak My Heart” after which she replied, “Now you know why I’m not a singer,” to which Ian replied, “Sing me something in Indian” and so she did. That’s our Shilpa – a Nowhere Singer bringing peace to the Big Brother world!

Shilpa in the Diary Room

Shilpa and the Face-man?

Much has been made about the pleasantries exchanged between Dirk Benedict and our Shilpa and even a romance has been hinted at when Dirk himself confessed he found her stunning and imagined what a Bollywood film with the both of them would be like. Since they entered the house and met they’ve been having conversations that count as the most intelligent and deep in the house. But the romance was nipped in the bud today as Shilpa confessed she’d probably end up marrying an Indian man.

Shilpa told an interested Carole and Cleo about her family at home, and how she doesn’t have many friends due to the nature of the industry she works in. She notes: “I’ve slogged my ass off for this…I started working at the age of 17, all my friends are from my fraternity, all are actors. I have no normal friends from the outside world.”

As she massaged Carole’s neck she revealed ‘I’ll probably marry an Indian man’. She also revealed she’d probably meet him at a wedding. Four seconds later Indian+wedding+Shilpa was googled 4,682 times.

Shilpa Shetty in The Big Brother House

Shilpa Lays Down The Law

Shilpa finally came to the end of her patience when Jackie started ordering the servants around and told them to throw away food despite them not having had anything to eat. At first Shilpa went into the bedroom and sat down and told Jermaine ‘enough is enough,’ to which Jermaine told her he too was upset but she had to remain calm as it would just create tension and problems between Jackie and Shilpa. She immediately snapped back that no-one deserved to be humiliated like they were and that if her friends were being put down she would not stand for it. She then called Jackie aside and told her she should be considerate. An argument ensued that resulted in both ignoring each other temporarily until Shilpa brought Jackie a glass of water and asked her to calm down, apologizing for being abrupt with her. Jackie rejected her apology initially but came round the next morning.

Later the next day, Shilpa was telling Dirk about the incident. Dirk has made it clear that he is less than impressed with Jackie’s behaviour in her disagreement with Shilpa last night. The subject came up after Jermaine wondered “how people can spend this much time together and not want to spend time together afterwards,” referring to last night’s problems. Dirk and Shilpa explained that Big Brother is playing mind-games with them, but Jermaine wasn’t impressed. “They can try but you can’t lose your compsure,” said Jermaine. “I’ve never lost my composure before,” said Shilpa. “But I couldn’t take it. I could have continued to fight but I don’t like to make scenes.” “In real life you just avoid people like that,” said Dirk. “You just leave the party.”

“Thank God for Jermaine, I tell you,” said Shilpa.
“Right in front of the Big Brother door I thought a fight would start,” said Jermaine to Dirk. “And you [Shilpa] were trying to make up with her and she wouldn’t let her [Shilpa] touch her and she was trying to make up with her.”
“Jermaine was ready to pounce on her,” added Shilpa. “He was watching like a hawk!”Shilpa said later: “I came to terms with it and realised that Jackie has had a different kind of life. I can’t be ranting about it.”

So far, Shilpa has been the only housemate to be able to tolerate and put Jackie in her place. Go Shilpa!

The Banquet

Shilpa well and truly became a member of the Goodie family at the banquet as she loved being part of a social gathering that involved parent and grandparents. Despite her initial differences with Jackie, Shilpa loved meeting Jade’s grandparents and even got up from the table just to hug them and tell them so in the middle of dinner.
“You’re reminding me of my grandparents,” she said with a smile and later confessed to Jermaine:
“I loved meeting them, to be together and so in love at such an age, it’s so wonderful to see.” Leo served the food, Jade beamed with pride at the reunion and everyone felt a sense of togetherness.

Shilpa Feels the Stress of the BB House

After a disruptive night, Shilpa woke up to her new housemates, Jade Goodie and her family. She has met her previous housemates as servants and found it a harrowing experience seeing them having to work so hard and not get any food.

As Head Butler Carole, led her troop into the Manor to meet Jade's family for the first time, Shilpa burst into tears at the sight of her servants. However, the Bollywood babe brushed it off with the classic: “I've got something in my eye!”

Then it was time for Jade to introduce the Family - real and adopted. After struggling to remember Jermaine and Shilpa’s names, Jade finally managed to muster, "And this is the beloved... erm, Uncle Ken.” Seems Shilpa’s Indian manners have rubbed onto Jade in no time!
However, things did not remain so pleasant as Jade’s mum Jackie has been barking orders and mispronouncing Shilpa’s name continuously. Shilpa, irked at the mispronounciations and at the treatment of her former housemates, had a word with Jackie which led to the first rift in the BB house.

Jade sided with Shilpa (or Princess as she’s now being known as), but a divide is clear with Jackie even rejecting a peace-offering from Shilpa. Leo tried to cut the tension and even told BB about the problem between Shilpa and Jackie but it seems volatile tensions between the two are set to explode soon with Shilpa confessing if she knew more about the BB experience she wouldn’t have signed up for it.

Jackie even became too much for Jade at one point and she went off crying with Shilpa following to comfort her.

She’s tough and getting through more than some of the others while putting up with a lot and she’s up for eviction with the rest of her new family, vote to keep her in…

Friday Night Shake Up

Shilpa Shetty has had a busy few days. She’s experienced drama, tears and excitement without the Bollywood arclights and the sound of ‘CUT!’ as she remains trapped in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

On Friday 5 January, the announcement came after a slow day that 3 housemates were to be picked to remain in the BB House and the other 8 would move next door to not-so-cosy quarters. Once the 8 left, leaving Shilpa, Ken and Jermaine in the BB House, Shilpa broke down and cried feeling a sense of loss being away from the others. She has had no problems with Ken or Jermaine but the movement of the other 8 meant she was the only female left in the BB House and that she had only 2 options of people to speak to, as well as having to deal with not having chats with people she had bonded with in a short time. Jermaine comforted her as Jade Goodie (a former BB contestant), her boyfriend Jack and mother Jackie entered the BB house shocking all. If this wasn’t enough it was then announced that the remaining 8 housemates who had now been shifted to smaller quarters were to be the servants of Jade and her newly extended family. Shilpa went to the diary room and expressed concern at seeing her friends “coming back as slaves” and it was clear the BB house has begun getting to her.

Punk rockstar-wannabe Donny Tourette decided to literally jump ship once he realised he’d have to serve Jade Goodie. In his own words: “I’m not going to serve that moron and her family,” he said before leaving with the words “tell them I said goodbye”.
Jermaine and Shilpa locked themselves in the shower to exchange whispers which said they found their new housemates annoying and they did not know what to do. Jermaine hated Jade’s voice and Shilpa encouraged him to try and stay in…
Seems the BB House is a far cry from Bollywood but has its own mix of friendship, tears and drama… Watch this Space!

Say it Loud: Shilpa's Doing Us Proud!

Shilpa Shetty has assumed the supporting role in the Big Brother house as others are still struggling to get used to their new surroundings. She offered to help clean up a mess made by Ian H Watkins, opened up to Carole about missing her parents and how close she is to her mother (who goes everywhere with her), taught the Face man a thing or two about Indian spirituality and even took Danielle under her wing. She’s already being the hospitable and friendly person she is, adapting perfectly to life in the house. The only thing she’s finding tough is being without her family, but as the Face man advised her “life is about letting go and that’s what you’ve got to do in here”. She smiled and said ‘Someone’s getting deep…’. Say it loud: Shilpa’s doing us proud!

Shilpa Brings Indian Values to the House

Shilpa Shetty has already made an impression on those inside and outside the house despite having only been a part of the Celebrity Big Brother experience for a few hours. Arriving in traditional Indian style draped in a red and green sari and putting her hands together to greet the crowds and cameras, Shetty looked every bit the superstar she is in Asia. Setting the flashbulbs alight and even stunning the host Davina (“She’s so beautiful, I can’t take my eyes off her”), Shilpa wasted no time in introducing herself to her fellow housemates and being herself. She introduced paneer to the Face man as well as told him about the health benefits of ghee, helped Danielle take her hair extensions out, told the house why fasting one day a week was of spiritual benefit and shed a tear when remembering her Mum.
The good Indian girl behind the glamour and glitz of Bollywood was called “pure elegance and class” on Big Brother’s Big Mouth show which discusses housemates and has been tipped to win by the bookies even before she was confirmed as an entrant. She even showed concern for Ken Russell and asked if she could call him ‘Uncle’ out of respect for him being an elder - Now that’s a girl to be proud of!

Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother Debate

Shilpa Shetty has been rumoured to be going into the Celebrity Big Brother house on Wednesday 3 January 2007 and many a debate has been sparked up as to whether or not she should go into the house. Some forums are saying it’s a last minute attempt to save a flagging career while others call it a most undignified thing to do. The truth is Shilpa is a good person from a decent family and has no flagging career to save. She’s doing fine and is sailing high from good work in positive films and doing shows taking Bollywood places it’s previously not been (like Karachi recently). She has two high-profile films coming up (Metro, Apne) and has always taken decisions against the norm which have worked to her advantage. Where previous celebrities on Big Brother are concerned, I think Shilpa is the biggest one to ever appear on the show. As for dignity, I think the real eye-opener will be for critics who think Shilpa (and most of Bollywood) are foul-mouthed, hypocritical hellraisers who cannot separate fun from sin. Shilpa is a sweet, fun-loving decent girl from a good family that is built on respect. She is inseparable from her family who have been her strength and support throughout her career. She’s simply not capable of being a fake and what you see is what you’ll get to see in the CBB house when her detractors will be proven wrong and the whole world will fall in love with Shilpa Shetty again. Wait and watch!
